Level I & Level II Volunteer Application Process: All individuals who are interested in volunteering (includes chaperoning field trips) must be approved by CPS. Depending on the level of volunteering you plan to do, you will be asked to complete an application for either a “Level I” or “Level II” volunteer.
Level I- The newest tier to volunteering. In order to become a Level I volunteer, you must complete the volunteer form for CPS, provide fingerprints, get a background check and take a TB test.
NEW: Volunteer services will send parents an email with instructions about a required CPS volunteer training. This is a new step required after being approved at the school level.

Student Spotlight
Congratulations to Lisa B from 6th grade for her hard work and excellent performance at the Honor Band festival. She performed with 60 of the top musicians from the Chicagoland area who were chosen for their musical ability, citizenship, and dedication to their school band program.
She represented Garvy well and we are very proud of her accomplishment.
Principal Student Advisory Board
The Principal's Student Advisory Board (PAB) is a student leadership organization that consists of students from grades 5-8th, who work together to discuss topics that affect our overall school community. The PAB meets with Principal Bester at least 6 times during the school year to discuss and make informed decisions regarding the well-being of the student body and the school community.
Mrs. Bester is seeking up to 12 students to join the PAB. The LSC Student Representative is an automatic member. This is a one year commitment (Spring to Spring).
If you are currently a student in grades 4-7 and would like to make positive additions to our school environment, please complete this application by Friday, May 15th.
With the return of nice weather, we are noticing an increase in unprotected student toes. Reminder, for their safety, all shoes need to have a closed toe and a heel strap. Shoes such as Birkenstocks or slides with open toes and heels are not allowed. At recess these shoes do not provide protection when playing games, walking on uneven surfaces and in the event of an emergency, these shoes can easily come off causing injury. Please remind and encourage your student to wear proper shoes when attending school.
Step Right Up for the Garvy Walk-a-Thon! The annual Walk-a-Thon, scheduled for Friday, May 8th, is a beloved Garvy spring tradition, and this year we’re celebrating Garvy as The Greatest School on Earth!
Fundraising efforts will continue until the date of the event, so your students will have a chance at their homeroom winning extra recess, a lemonade party for their homeroom, or a water blaster party!!! Donations will continue through May 8.
Our 6th & 7th grade dance is April 23rd from 6:00pm-7:30pm. Along with the permission slip that MUST be filled out in order for your student to attend, we are looking for volunteers to help decorate the MPR as well as chaperone the dance. If you can help at all please sign up- even an hour of your time helps! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the Garvy PTA at any time.
