Quarter 2 AtTENdance Challenge
Strong attendance is the first step toward success. Regular attendance is crucial throughout a student’s academic journey. Chronic absenteeism means a student is missing too much school—about 10% or more of the school year—which can seriously affect their learning and success. 10% of the school year equates to around 18 days, or one day every two weeks.
There are 177 days in this school year. It is our goal to lower the number of students who are labeled chronically absent. Therefore, each student should aim to miss less than 17 days this school year. That equates to about 1-2 days per month.
The Quarter 2 AtTENdance challenge is an individual challenge from Monday, December 1st to Friday the 12th. For these 10 school days, we want all students to be in attendance. Each individual student with 95% or better attendance will be invited to a special celebration.
Remember our goal is Awesome Attendance, not Perfect Attendance.
Overall Attendance YTD: 95.3%

Community Concerns

Garvy School is a part of a wonderful community. It is important that we conduct ourselves in a way that respects our neighbors and keeps our students safe. Here are some important reminders:
- Parking: We were alerted by neighbors who live on Oak Park that some Garvy parents are parking in the alleys surrounding the school and blocking garages. This is highly disrespectful to our neighbors. Please refrain from blocking garages, alleyways, or driveways. If you are driving to school, find a suitable parking space on streets surrounding the school and walk over to the building.
- Recess and PE: To ensure all students are safe, parents should not approach the fence surrounding the school and speak to any students, including your own children. Staff members will remind any adult who stops near the fence during the school day.
- Turf: No one should ride bikes, scooters, skates, etc on the playground turf. The wheels and pressure could potentially damage the turf.
Thank you for your attention to these concerns.
The Adopt-a-Classroom Committee wants to extend our heartfelt thanks for helping make our first Bingo Night a success at the Brig! Thank you so much for donating, participating, and showing up to support Garvy! I hope our prize winners are enjoying their victories and that everyone was able to have some fun.
The proceeds from this fundraiser will help pay for the Garvy students' math curriculum!
Thank you all for the amazing collaboration that made International Night a spectacular success! From the dedicated teachers and families who worked on the culture jars, to the students and parents who poured their hearts into creating the beautiful culture tables, posters, and artifacts, every contribution was invaluable.
A huge thank you to the talented performers (including those who shared traditional dances, poetry, and piano pieces), our fantastic donors who provided the amazing food, and our special guests: CIRCA Pintig Theatre for their entertainment, the impressive fencing and martial arts groups, and the organizers of the arts and crafts.
This success was a collective effort, and we appreciate every single person who contributed their energy, talent, and passion!
