Happy Sunday Garvy!
RESCHEDULED: Tea Time with Bester
Due to a CPS budget meeting for next school year, the April 2nd Tea Time meeting has been rescheduled to Wednesday, April 10th during Parent-Teacher Conferences. We will meet in the MPR at 1pm and 5pm. Hope to see you.
Solar Eclipse
On Monday, April 8th, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross over the United States. At 2:07 pm, Chicago will be at the maximum point within the eclipse zone with 94% of the sun covered by the moon. Garvy School is planning an opportunity to allow students to observe the solar eclipse outside. Observing the eclipse provides opportunities to see science in action and connect future generations of explorers to the awe and wonder of Earth and Space Sciences.
As always, student safety is a top priority. Students will be provided International Organization for Standardization (ISO) approved eclipse glasses to observe the solar eclipse. All students that participate in observing the solar eclipse outside are required to wear the ISO approved eclipse glasses. Students should not remove their eclipse glasses and look directly at the sun.
A parent/guardian signature is required by Friday April 5th, for students to participate in the outdoor observation of the solar eclipse using the eclipse glasses. If you do not wish for your student to be outside during the solar eclipse or if you do not return this form, your student will participate in an alternative activity inside the school where they will view NASA’s live feed of the solar eclipse. Here is a digital version of the permission slip: Solar Eclipse Permission Slip
Principal Student Advisory Board
The Principal's Student Advisory Board (PAB) is a student leadership organization that consists of students from grades 5-8th, who will work together to discuss topics that affect our school community. The PAB will meet with Principal Bester at least 6 times during the school year to discuss and make informed decisions regarding the well-being of the student body and the school community.
Mrs. Bester is seeking up to 12 students to join the PAB. The LSC Student Representative will be an automatic member. This is a one year commitment (Spring to Spring). If you are currently a student in grades 4-7 and would like to make a positive change to our school environment, please complete this application by Friday, April 5th. The first meeting is scheduled for Friday, April 12th. PAB Application
Garvy Misconduct Response
At Garvy School, our utmost priority is to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment for every student. To address inappropriate behavior effectively, our school administrators adhere to the CPS Student Rights and Responsibilities alongside the CPS Guidelines for Effective Discipline. The document, linked here, serves as a guide for students, parents, and staff, to better understand our disciplinary approach for serious or repeated offenses.
