Additional Notes
Level I & Level II Volunteer Application Process: All individuals who are interested in volunteering (includes chaperoning field trips) must be approved by CPS. Depending on the level of volunteering you plan to do, you will be asked to complete an application for either a “Level I” or “Level II” volunteer.
Steps to follow: (Please note: It is a CPS requirement that you fall into one of these two levels to become a volunteer)
Step 1: Complete THIS volunteer form for CPS This form is necessary for CPS to verify you have students in the system and that they attend the school you are requesting to volunteer at.
Step 2: Bring a government issued ID to the Canty main office for verification. If you do not do this step, the process will not move forward.
For Level II, the process ends here.
For Level 1, you must also do the following:
Step 3: After you submit your ID, you will receive an email from CPS which will contain links and information for fingerprinting, background check and TB test. For fingerprinting, please fill out this form and take it to any Accurate Biometrics location. For the TB test, use this form. These tests can be completed at MercyWorks locations. Please note, there is a $20 TB test fee.
Step 4: Email copies of both the fingerprints and TB test to [email protected]. The sooner they receive these forms, the faster your application can be processed. Please note, fingerprints can take 2-5 weeks to process.
Lunch: A free, hot lunch is provided for all students. However, students can also bring a packed lunch from home, if they choose. To accomodate students with severe nut allergies, there are two nut free tables in the lunchroom. All students are allowed to sit at these nut free tables. However, they cannot have any nut products in their lunch. In addition, please be mindful of classmates who may have a severe nut allergies, when packing snacks that are eaten in the classroom.
Contact Information: If you are unsure of who to contact regarding a concern, please refer to the short list below.

Happy Sunday Garvy!
Thank you to all who attended our Supply Drop off. Special shout out to our PTA board and parent volunteers who sold Garvy merchandise in the gym. I love the new designs! If you were unable to attend, your child can gradually bring in the school supplies in their backpack.
Tomorrow is the first day of school year 2024-2025! Please refer to the entry and exit procedures below.

Weather Forecast
Temperatures are expected to reach the 90s during the first week of school. But don’t worry—we are fully prepared for the heat!
-
All our classrooms are equipped with air conditioning, and our engineer will fix any air conditioning concerns that we may encounter.
-
We will make sure that staff and students remain sufficiently hydrated.
-
If heat is excessive, we will:
-
Hold recess and physical education classes indoors
-
Draw shades in classrooms to keep sunlight out
-
Keep doors closed in rooms
-
Turn off overhead lights, computers, monitors, and appliances when not required for instruction.
Please help us by dressing your children in light, loose-fitting clothes, and sending them to school with full water bottles.
School Fees
A school fee will be collected from each student to purchase consumable materials (ex. workbooks, magazines, science supplies, digital platforms, etc.). Parents are asked to submit payment by September 15th. Please submit payment via the website online platform. The fee does not cover the expense of field trips, lost or damaged books, or typical school supplies.
Due to the financial instability of CPS and the loss of additional funding sources, in the Spring of 2024, the LSC voted to raise the yearly student fee to the following:
1 Student at Garvy: $125 3 Students at Garvy: $300
2 Students at Garvy: $250 4 Students or more: $325
Kiss-N-Go Procedures
Kiss and Go is a drop-off routine for our car riding students during morning arrival. This allows students to exit the car safely and quickly, while also helping keep traffic flowing around our school. We have two separate Kiss N Go areas; One on Oak Park (by Door 9) and another on Rutherford (by Door 5). These streets are drop off areas only and cars are not to park during arrival times.
Morning supervision begins at 8:15 A.M. and students are to line up in their assigned areas. Oak Park moves northbound only and Rutherford moves southbound only. Look for the large sandwich boards as well as Ms. Brodsky and Ms. Bester who will open car doors so students can exit vehicles safely.
There is NO PARKING nor STOPPING on Oak Park and Rutherford between
8:00-8:30 AM nor between 3:00 and 3:30 PM.
