Mrs. Shearer - Media Studies (5th-8th)

I'm very excited to join the Garvy family this year. This is my 1st year at Garvy and my 7th year as a teacher in the Chicagoland area.  I received my Bachelor’s Degrees in Business & Economics as well as Media Communications from North Park University.  After working in promotions and marketing I returned to North Park to complete my  Master’s of Arts in Teaching along with my teacher licensing credentials. I'm a native Chicagoan and in my free time I love to try new neighborhood restaurants and taking walks around our neighborhood.

This year students will be working with me focusing on Digital Citizenship, Media Literacy, and creating Digital Media. You may be asking yourself, "What is media literacy?" Media literacy is the ability to ACCESS, ANALYZE, EVALUATE, CREATE and ACT using all forms of communication.

Each grade level will focus on the different areas of media literacy and digital citizenship along with a digital media focus for the school year.
